The wait is over, you guys. Princess Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Though the new royal does not have a name yet, he does have an official title: His Royal Highness the Prince of Cambridge. But what will Prince William and Kate name their first child? He is to be the next King of England, so the name has to be regal, of course, so don't expect anything over-the-top. According to the United Kingdom betting world, George is the favored name for the new prince.
"You have to remember they are naming the future king or queen. So you won't want to see something silly, like Queen Suri, which would be fine if you are playing dress-up, but it is not quite appropriate for when you are the queen of 16 nations. They are going to be very careful when naming their child, so we will see something traditional," Victoria Arbiter, ABC's royals contributor explained before the sex of the baby was revealed and a girl was favored among the public.
In the past, it has taken some royals plenty of time to name their children. For instance, William received his name about a week after being born and his father, Charles, had to wait a month before receiving a name!
So how does the Royal Family like the new addition? First of all, William gave a very short statement to the public yesterday after the birth of his son. He said, "We could not be happier."
A Kensington Palace spokesman said, "Mother, son and father are all doing well this morning."
William's father, Charles, made the following statement upon the arrival of his first grandchild:
"Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.
"Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone's life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future."
Queen Elizabeth II is also "delighted" to have a great-grandchild!
Reports claim that William and Kate could leave the hospital as early as this afternoon or possibly stay until Wednesday morning. This means that we could get our first glimpse of the new Prince either today or tomorrow.
