Fez 2, the follow up to the hugely popular indie video game Fez created by Phil Fish has been cancelled. Polytron, the developer for Fez II, made the announcement on Twitter after Fish himself broke the news to fans on his Twitter account. This all comes allegedly, after extensive criticism online towards Fish, specifically from journalist Marcus Beer, co-host of GameTrailers' Invisible Walls Web show. It seems the online hatred toward Fish from Beer, who goes under the name @AnnoyedGamer on Twitter, and others has led to the cancellation of Fez II.

According to PCMag, Beer ripped into Fish during one of his web shows recently, saying Fish was "bitching and moaning" when asked to comment about a Microsoft revelation about XBox One gaming consoles.

"So let's get something out of the way," Beer said (via PCMag). "If you are successful and you want people to promote your games, and you go to the press and give them quotes for anything that pertains to your shilling your next title, when the press then come to you and say, 'Oh, this is something that's pertinent to the indie scene, let's talk to Blowfish because Blowfish are successful and they are supposedly these pioneers,' don't get f----ng snicky about it, alright."

It seems that this escalated into a Twitter blowup between Beer and Fish, and according to Kotaku, Fish was demanding an on-camera apology from Beer. Fish even at one point reportedly told Beer to "kill himself." Fish then tweeted, "I f----ng hate this industry." Fish would lock his Twitter account, but not before tweeting, "im done, FEZ II is canceled. goodbye." Polytron has since tweeted, ""It's with a heavy heart that we announce that FEZ II has been cancelled and is no longer in development. We apologize for the disappointment."

Many people are pointing to Beer's criticism as the reason why Fish cancelled the game, but in a post on Polytron's site, Fish said, "isn't the result of any one thing, but the end of a long, bloody campaign."

So why do you think Fish canceled Fez II? Is Beer solely to blame or is more of a widespread issue? It seems Beer is facing a lot of criticism on Twitter and has been tweeting quite a bit on Sunday (July 28) defending himself.
