It seemed for a while that things might be coming to a head in the investigation into Bollywood starlet Jiah Khan's suicide. Suraj Pancholi, actor and the ex-boyfriend of Khan, has long been released from prison on charges that he abetted the suicide. It was somewhat surprising when Rabbiya Khan, the mother of Jiah and outspoken believer that Pancholi was responsible, withdrew her claims that he had abetted her suicide. Even more surprising was when she accused the actor of murdering her daughter.

"People are in the impression the case is over and done well you will be surprised," she tweeted, adding another tweet later: "he killed her I have proof."

It would have to be pretty powerful stuff to overrule the findings of the judicial system thus far. The official autopsy concluded that Jiah had killed herself by hanging, and it also noted that there was alcohol in her system at the time of her death. Although Pancholi is free from prison, he could still face charges for abetting the suicide, although experts believe it is unlikely.

Much of Rabbiya's argument is based around allegations in letters from her daughter that Pancholi had both raped and beaten her daughter in previous occasions. If the allegations were true, he would most certainly be found guilty. However the coroner indicated that Jiah had no bruising on her face as Rabbiya suggested. Police did obtain records however that confirm Jiah received an abortion from a Mumbai hospital, as described in one of the letters. Pancholi has denied knowing of the child but acknowledges that it could have been his.

For all parties involved, we hope the matter is settled as soon as possible.
