"The Way" singer Ariana Grande continued her teasing for her new album 2013 "Yours Truly" throughout the first week of August by posting two new album snippets to her Instagram account for album tracks "Better Left Unsaid" and "Almost Is Never Enough."
Unlike "Yours Truly" singles "The Way" and "Baby I" as well as the first released snippet for "Piano," the two most recent tracks are less R&B powerhouse club anthems and more soaring ballads.
"Better Left Unsaid" received its snippet release on Friday, Aug. 2. Unlike the first two Grande previews, "Better Left Unsaid" featured an Instagram video with a simple gray background, instead of a car shot. Grande's vocals positively soar. "And I swore that I would never say, / I miss you more every day, / But some things are better left unsaid," Grande belts out in the short clip.
Due to relatively poor audio quality and the absolute shortness of the clip, it's hard to really dig in to the vibes of "Better Left Unsaid." The mix feels a bit off in the snippet, with the jangly piano and electronic instrumentation barely audible. But as any power ballad goes, it's truly the lyrics and vocals that shine, and fans already know Grande has the singing chops.
Aug. 4's snippet for "Almost Is Never Enough" falls in line with the pace "Better Left Unsaid" has set for "Yours Truly." A duet with The Wanted member Nathan Sykes, the "Almost Is Never Enough" snippet features the two singers' voices weaving into each other. Sykes croons in a lower register, while Grande reaches into her highest register.
According to Grande's and manager Scooter Braun's Twitters, Sykes and Grande have been shooting a music video for the new track.
Two songs from "Yours Truly" have been released and three snippets. Each new Grande unveiling reveals one more piece of the puzzle, and it seems as though "Yours Truly" will shape up to be a strong poppy, R&B infused debut from the "Victorious" star.
"Yours Truly," which received its album cover last week, will be released on Sept. 3.
