On August 3, BET's President of Programming and Specials Stephen Hill ran into "Outkast" rapper Andre 3000 backstage during Lil Wayne's "America's Most Wanted" tour pit-stop in Washington DC. He later tweeted a portion of their conversation:
@StephenGHill: "Me: hey what's up? You got the movie coming, right? Andre 3000: yeah...and I got a solo album coming top of the year. Me:*droptofloor*."
The Twitter post soon went viral, prompting fans to spread the rumor that Andre 3000's set to release a new solo album sometime in 2014. But according to the "Hey Ya" singer's publicist, that's not necessarily true:
"Regarding reports of a specific plan to release an album in early 2014. There is no official confirmation on that report," the emcee's rep released in a statement to Billboard.
So what's the deal?
Back in February 2012, Dre stated that there was no new Outkast album in the works. However, he did plan on releasing a solo album later in the year... of course that never happened. Since then, he's been focusing on fashion and acting.
Andre 3000 stars in the upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic "All Is by My Side" directed by John Ridley:
Pretty busy guy... does he have time to record solo music for a new record? Do fans HOPE he makes the time?
