So...after a week or so of hyping up a rare performance by French electronic duo Daft Punk on the Colbert Report, the group behind song-of-the summer candidate "Get Lucky" and possible yearend top 10 album Random Access Memories bailed. And the amazing part? The resulting show was better for it.
Comedy Central parent company Viacom reportedly didn't want the band's performance to lessen the hype for their VMA slot on MTV.
Stephen called the move a real "kick in my balls" while shouting out show sponsor Hyundai. Then, playing up a refusal to accept that DP cancelled, he claimed he was being "Daft Punk'd" that ended with Ashton Kutcher appearing.
StePhest Colbchella '013 was not going to be deterred however, Colbert gave his audience an amazing rendition of "Get Lucky" featuring cameos by Bryan Cranston, Hugh Laurie, Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Jimmy Fallon, Henry Kissinger and a bearded Jon Stewart.
