Actress Hayley Atwell will make an appearance in next year's Captain America: The Winter Soldier even though her character, Peggy Carter, lived in the World War II era.
Atwell told RCN TV that returning to Marvel Studios and working on Captain America: The Winter Soldier was "like going back to a family." She also revealed a connection between the film and the Blu-Ray for fellow Marvel movie Iron Man 3:
"I did a short film, which comes out on the Blu-Ray for Iron Man 3 in September and there's a hint that she still holds a flame for [Steve Rogers/Captain America]. She still pines after him. But the picture of him in her desk is one of early-Steve, skinny-Steve. You get a sense that she loved that, she loved his spirit, his heart and his character. So that's really a nice touch."
It's not confirmed if Atwell will appear as Carter in flashback sequences, or if she will play an aged version of the character in the modern day. Photos of Atwell supposedly on set in makeup and gray hair have circulated on the Internet, so it's possible that the latter (or both) is true.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
