WWE's SummerSlam pay-per-view is tonight Sunday, August 18 and the match card is rumored to not even be set yet. However, we have the match card as of Sunday afternoon for you along with predictions and a full preview of the show. There also are some rumors about the night's main event between John Cena and Daniel Bryan. There are some possible spoilers below involving new matches added to the card and the outcome of the WWE Championship match.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the long term idea is to have Triple H turn heel and Vince McMahon play the role of the baby face heading into their WrestleMania 30 confrontation. With Triple H being put in as the special referee in the Daniel Bryan and John Cena match, it will be interesting to see if he turns heel tonight. The plan is also for Bryan and Randy Orton to be in the main event at September's Night of Champions pay-per-view leaving Cena time off to heel from injuries.
F4Wonline.com is reporting that during the SummerSlam pre-show match between RVD and Dean Ambrose an angle will be shot setting up a match later involving Mark Henry and Big Show vs. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.
Below is the match card going into tonight's pay-per-view along with my predictions.
WWE Champion John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan
- Based on rumors of Cena needing to take time off and Bryan and Orton headlining the next pay-per-view it seems that Bryan will win this match. However, how he wins, is another story. Personally, I am no Cena fan, but I think it would almost be a surprise if he won tonight. I would like to see Cena win tonight by Triple H screwing Bryan, then have Orton cash in tonight on Cena. Or have Orton wait to cash in during a rematch on tomorrow night's Raw. WWE has enough moving parts in this match where they should surprise fans somehow. I'm going to go against my gut here and say Cena walks out the champion somehow.
On a side note either tonight or on Raw I think it would be time to get The Shield back in the driver's seat as a force to be reckoned with. If Cena is going to take time off anyways, why not have The Shield come out and be the reason Cena is out?
CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar
- Since Lesnar apparently only has a three pay-per-view deal with WWE, I don't see him winning this match. I say continue Punk's momentum as a face and give him the victory. I say Punk wins and gets revenge on Heyman.
World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian
- I kind of like the way Del Rio looked as a viscous heel beating up Ricardo Rodriguez. However, I see Christian winning with Rodriguez returning and helping Christian. I then see Damien Sandow cashing in to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Kane vs. Bray Wyatt (Ring of Fire Match)
- Rumor is Kane is going to be in another WWE movie so I see him being taken out by the Wyatt family. The Wyatt's are still in the early stages where they are being pushed and rightfully so. I see Wyatt coming out the victor here.
Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn vs. Big E Langston and Divas Champion AJ Lee
- I see Ziggler and Kaitlyn coming out on top. This could honestly go either way I feel. Is WWE higher on Big E Langston's potential or Ziggler?
Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow
- I see Cody Rhodes beating Sandow in this one. I'm not sure how, but I see Rhodes screwing over Sandow to get back at Sandow's Money in the Bank betrayal. Then after Sandow cashes in later in the night, Rhodes and Sandow will continue their feud for the title.
Natalya vs. Brie Bella
- With the Bella's continuing to be the main focal point on "Total Divas" I see them winning out here.
United States Champion Dean Ambrose vs. Rob Van Dam (Kickoff Match)
- I think Ambrose loses the title after a lot of interference. I honestly think Ambrose is better off without the title at this point.
