Los Angeles noise rock duo No Age has released the band's fourth album, "An Object," on Sub Pop this week. Poised as the grand return of modern punk saviors, the album falls a bit short of the hype but that is almost expected after months of fans plastering Facebook and Twitter with anticipation. No Age definitely tried to sound bigger but mainly sounded a bit safe. But does "safe" even factor into No Age's sound?

Punk rock is a pretty dead genre these days, but there are a few examples of how it has survived so many years after it became bastardized into mainstream music.  No Age is a great example of this. Jumping around between loud, distressed and slow, sincere tracks, singer-drummer Dean Spunt and guitarist Randy Randall show fans that they have range while staying true to the nature of No Age.

If you're a fan of this duo, you are going to love "An Object." If you're not too familiar with No Age, though, you might not be on board with this new release. There are some tracks that can serve as stand alone samples of No Age in any stage of their career, but as a whole, the album seems like it's for the fans. This is not a bad thing. If anything it's great for the fans.

Stand out tracks include "Defector/ed," "An Impression," "I Won't Be Your Generator," and "Circling with Dizzy."

"An Object," like many other albums, is also meant as a full package experience including artwork and inserts on top of the actual music. The band has made it known they intended for the album to be a package deal including jackets, inserts, and labels. No Age took on the roles of manufacturer, artist, and musician for "An Object," making the entirety of the album that much more personal and special.
