Wale's "No Pain, No Gain" hit the net last night and it's...pretty bad. I hate to trash The Gifted rapper as he's put out some unadulterated classics in the last few years (plus, "LoveHate Thing" is my jam), but everything about this track -reportedly from a Robert Griffin III- documentary is over-the-top cheesy.
The rapper strings together "Put The Team On My Back, DOE!" cliches with no payoff. It's all work hard, eyes on the prize schlock that leads into a chorus that's little more than "No pain, no gayyyne." This track will undoubtedly soundtrack a montage in RG3's documentary, leaving us with a scene that Oliver Stone would say is a bit too on the nose.
Also, how have rappers not learned their lesson about fake patois yet? It's embarrasing, man.
Kendrick blasted him on "Control" and (to cop another football cliche) this track comes off like Wale's hearing footsteps. I guess clear minds and full hearts can lose.
