Because sometimes real life needs to remind you how absolutely, absurdly on-the-nose it can be, Whole Foods organic grocery stores are test-marketing a hand-picked vinyl section for its shoppers. I wish I was kidding.
Via NME:
Five of the chain's branches, all located in California, introduced a "carefully curated selection of vinyl records" earlier this month (August). At present, the stores are stocking an eclectic range of albums by artists including The Rolling Stones, Daft Punk, Arcade Fire, Tegan and Sara, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Emeli Sandé, Bob Marley and Frank Sinatra.
"This launch isn't just about stocking our shelves with something new and different - it's about listening to our shoppers and giving them access to the things they want - whether it's their favourite cheese or their favourite way to enjoy music," the company's regional executive co-ordinator Mike Bowen said in a press statement.
Yes, just as Whole Foods is healthy food for people who don't really want to try that hard, Whole Foods vinyl section will be indie music for people who haven't actively paid attention to music since 2008.
What do you think of Whole Foods decision to test-market a vinyl section?
