Well, if this isn't infuriating. As you may remember Daft Punk bailed out of a much-hyped performance on the Colbert Report earlier this month because they feared it would interfere with the buzz they were trying to build for their super-secret VMA appearance. It was stupid for many reasons (how can you build excitement for a performance that is supposed to be secret?) not the least of which being that Colbert was obviously going to have to explain where the Random Access Memories duo was, if not in his studio.
Of course, we all know that Colbert handled the situation beautifully with a celebrity-filled "Get Lucky" video and a performance by Robin Thicke.
When the VMAs did roll around of course Daft Punk put on an amazing performance that not only made people forget the Colbert controversy but actually made them burn the t-shirts they got from the landmark Alive tour...
What's that?
Sorry, my bad. I'm being told that the robots literally stood on stage and did absolutely nothing while the show continued on around them. It's hard to believe, but it appears that the influential electronic group bailed on one of the most-watched/discussed programs on television to build up tension for a non-event. I mean, they presented an award and a preview clip of "Lose Yourself To Dance"... aaaaand the collective energy of the dismissive wank motion we're all doing right now could power a small city.

Just think, if Daft Punk had played a single note, we probably would have been spared the 17 million words already penned about Miley Cyrus' psuedo-twerking. Once again, the universe has let us all down.
