Earlier this week in Los Angeles, Selena Gomez attended the premiere of her latest film, Getaway, with her co-stars Ethan Hawke and Jon Voight. Gomez has recently revealed that she plans to put her movie career first and take a break from music after her current "Stars Dance" tour. But even at her premiere, the 21-year-old starlet could not avoid gossip questions.
Her date to the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift, caused quite the stir when cameras caught her saying something to Selena that looked like "shut the f*** up" while One Direction was presenting an award. Gomez was actually the recipient of that award ("Best Female Video"). So when someone asked her what Taylor actually said to her at the VMAs, she responded in one of the best ways possible.
"Don't try that with me," Gomez said.
She later went on to explain that she is protective of her friends, especially her BFF Taylor.
"I think girls need to be more supportive of each other. I definitely agree with that. I'm all about that," she said. "Taylor has been one of those girls. We have been friends for five years. She is very strong. She doesn't care what people think and she inspires me."
She might not have been surprised to get some questions about the VMAs during her premiere; Selena admitted that she was pretty surprised to win a moonman.
"So I am watching the beautiful boys, One Direction who are not bad to look at, then they said my name," she recalled. "I looked at Taylor ... it was surreal. Because I do put so much work into my music. There's so much talk of everything. But I did put my heart and soul into it so I was really excited. It was great."
Getaway hits theaters August 30, 2013.
