It does, in fact, seem like 13 is an unlucky number for "American Idol." The Fox reality singing competition is having so much trouble finding a third judge for its upcoming season that production on the show may have to be delayed.
Earlier this week, songwriter Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gotwald) had to turn down an offer from "Idol" due to contractual obligations he has with Sony Music. Now, the show is scrambling to find a third.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the loss of Dr. Luke was a major blow to "Idol" and could lead to the show's delay. Production on the show was set to begin next Tuesday, but without a third judge, that simply could not happen.
Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber's manager, was rumored to be in discussions with the show, but now TMZ reports that he is simply not interested. "The only reason to do it at this point is vanity and he doesn't do things for vanity. Without the right to manage the acts, it makes no business sense for him and ultimately, he's a business guy," a source told the gossip site.
So, while "Idol" wanted an industry insider (like former judges Randy Jackson or Simon Cowell), according to THR, it seems as though they may have to settle for another musician/celebrity.
Harry Connick, Jr. is now reportedly the most likely third judge.
So far, the only officially confirmed judge for the 13th season of "American Idol" is Keith Urban, whose first turn at the table was last season. Jennifer Lopez is all but officially confirmed to return to the show after a one-season long hiatus.
