Miley Cyrus is not dead, but it seems as though many people across the country are declaring her innocent Hannah Montana Disney character to be symbolically dead. No, Hannah Montana wasn't officially killed off in any sort of TV show storyline, but after Miley's raunchy twerking performance with "Blurred Lines" singer Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV VMA's, everyone seems to think Miley's old Disney character has been officially put to rest.

Everyone seemed to have an opinion about Miley's on-stage VMA's performance in her skin colored latex. Miley used the spotlight to show off her twerking skills, while also using a foam finger in a sexually suggestive way. While, many debate over whether Miley is really "losing it" ala Lindsay Lohan/Amanda Bynes or just pulled a very smart marketing move, it's clear that the good girl Hannah Montana image is done for good.

Miley follows a long list of female stars who started off as wholesome young stars and went for the more adult and controversial angle. Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, etc. have all grown up in front of fans' eyes and gone towards a more controversial act.

Fox and Friends co-host Steve Doocy declared (via Entertainment Weekly), "I think it's official Hannah Montana the character is dead." Martha MacCallum added on Fox's America's Newsroom (via Entertainment Weekly) earlier this week, "No more Hannah Montana that I watched with my daughter. She was really cute. She was funny. She was talented."

If anyone was paying close attention to Miley's behavior the last few months, her VMA performance shouldn't have come as too big a surprise. She clearly has grown up quite a bit and put the Hannah Montana character to rest a long time ago.
