The new Stone Temple Pilots, featuring Lincoln Park singer Chester Bennington as their frontman, have announced the release date for their new EP, according to NME. The Stone Temple Pilots will be releasing a new five-track EP titled High Rise on October 8th via 12Star Records. This is the band's first album release since their break up with former singer Scott Weiland. STP and Weiland are currently embroiled in dual lawsuits over their messy breakup. Weiland has basically said that the band will have to pay up in order to get him to go way. There has yet to be a full track listing released for the new EP, but according to NME, the songs "Out of Time" and "Tomorrow" will both be on the album.
Unfortunately, it seems the feud between Weiland and STP has overshadowed new music from both sides. Weiland is currently touring as "Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts" while STP begins an international tour next month with Bennington as the frontman.
Bennington has found himself stuck in the middle of the band's feud with their former singer. Both parties have lawsuits against the other side. According to NME, STP filed a lawsuit against Weiland back in May, stopping him from using the band's name. STP claims the reason for his dismissal from the group was issues with addiction and problems showing up on time. Weiland filed a counter lawsuit claiming that the band had no legal reason to fire him from the band.
Weiland was on the radio station 98.7 The Gator in Florida recently and said (via Blabbermouth.net) that the band can't use the name "Stone Temple Pilots" without him. "But it's just ridiculous, 'cause they can't use the name with me not being in the band without us coming to an agreement," Weiland said. "So I just don't really see that... They'll have buy me out of the company, because I have major value in the company and in the brand. So that's where we're at. The lawyers will deal with it."
