ABC's hit show "Scandal" is getting a huge star to join the cast for season 3. The Hollywood Reporter reports that former "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow has signed on to play a recurring role this upcoming season in the hit drama starring Emmy nominee Kerry Washington. "Scandal's" season 3 premiere is just weeks away with its first episode set to air on Oct. 3 at 10pm on ABC. Kudrow, who has had a number of successful producing ventures with the shows "Web Therapy" and TLC's "Who Do You Think You Are?" will make her return to primetime TV this fall.

"Scandal" doesn't need any help in the star power department with the rise to fame of Kerry Washington. The actress has become one of Hollywood's biggest starlets since taking on the role of Olivia Pope. In other season 3 casting news, according to the Huffington Post, Scott Foley has been upgraded to a series regular this season. Also, Cynthia Stevenson will join the cast in a guest role in season 3.

As for who Kudrow will be playing in season 3, that is apparently being kept under wraps, although she will reportedly be playing a politician. ABC announced the news on Twitter, retweeting Deadline. "Casting news! RT @Deadline: @LisaKudrow Joins #Scandal https://dlvr.it/3t0pDV  #Gladiators."

Season 3 will likely be focused on Fitz's re-election attempts. Showrunner Shonda Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter that the president's re-election will likely be one of the storylines next season. "We're going to head in that direction, but I don't know if we're going to get there in the first half of the season," Rhimes said. "But we are heading in that direction. It's a big deal. We're at the timeline where that starts to be an issue."
