The rumors surrounding Benedict Cumberbatch's casting in the upcoming J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: Episode VII have been debunked by a spokesperson for the actor. This of course means that the rumors Sith Lord part that Cumberbatch was up for is still open for casting.

During an interview held back in May to promote Star Trek Into Darkness, Cumberbatch spoke at length about his desire to star in 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII.

"I've already asked [J.J. Abrams] if I can be a lightsaber and we're in talks - about whirring sounds and the rates for the lights and everything," Cumberbatch joked.

He added: "I was much more connected to [Star Wars] as a kid, in the way that a lot of kids are because it's immediate storytelling, very simple - a beautifully, outrageously simple narrative in a way - and a wonderful three-act melodrama, opera. And I loved them. I really, really loved those films and I always wanted to be Han Solo ... I was an out-and-out kid running around with a lightsaber wanting to fly the Millennium Falcon ..."

But it looks like this casting news was just a big rumor. Thanks to a rep for the Star Trek Into Darkness actor, this news has now become just another rumor involved in the anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII production.

There is no truth to the rumour Benedict has been cast in Star Wars," a spokesperson for the 37-year-old actor revealed in light of the rumors. "I think the rumors are circling because JJ and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek."

Cumberbatch is not the only Star Trek Into Darkness actor who won't be in J.J.'s Star Wars, though. Fellow stars like Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg have publicly stated they had no interest in working on the film.

Pegg, a renowned Star Wars  fan, said: "I'll get to go visit the set because J.J. is shooting in the UK, so I'm going to take my daughter and go see him and we're friends, so that's almost enough. I'll get to visit the set of Star Wars."

He added: "If a lightsaber goes missing, he'll know who it was."
