TV On The Radio dropped by Late Show With David Letterman and their new-wavey art-rock got quite the rise out of the recently haggard seeming host. While most Late Show's bands get little more than confusion or indifference from Dave as of late (see: MGMT), TVOTR's live performance of "Mercy" caused the talk show veteran to gush.
"Nice going," Dave told the band after the song. "Wow! How about that! Yes! TV on the Radio!"
Dave then pointed to drummer Jaleel Burton and said "How about that kid, huh?" before turning to the rest of the band and saying "Fantastic! Great pleasure to see ya."
Letterman's outbursts, of course, echo the sentiments of fans who have been waiting for new material since 2011's Nine Types Of Light. TVOTR have been on hiatus since the death of their bassist Gerard Smith from lung cancer that year.
While the surge of new music seems promising, the band's Tunde Abimpe said that they aren't looking to release an album any time soon.
"Right now we're only thinking in terms of songs, smaller things we can put out regularly until an album seems possible," he told SPIN.
