Floyd Mayweather put on another dominating performance defeating Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Saturday night. Mayweather remained undefeated beating Alvarez 114-114, 116-112 and 117-111 by decision. Unfortunately the sport of boxing has become so jaded that often fans wonder if big fights such as last night's bought are fixed. However, for anyone who watched the bought, it was easy to see this fight was not fixed rather; Mayweather was just the better fighter.
Mayweather will go down as one of the greatest fighters of our generation, possibly one of the greatest fighters of all time. Even at the age of 36, 17 years into his career, Mayweather seemed to be punching circles around his 23-year-old opponent.
Many experts felt Alvarez would be one of Mayweather's toughest opponents. Alvarez came into the fight undefeated himself, at 42-0-1. However, at the end of the night, only Mayweather remained unbeaten at 45-0.
Maybe even more eye-catching is the millions upon millions of dollars Mayweather has earned throughout his boxing career. Forbes.com reports that Mayweather will earn at least $41.5 million from Saturday night's fight, bringing his career total $350 million.
So who will be Mayweather's next challenger? Well, according to the Los Angeles Times, one possible opponent could be a guy who fought last night as well. Unbeaten world junior-welterweight champion Danny Garcia could meet Mayweather at welterweight for both boxers next fight.
Is it too late for the dream Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao fight? Probably when it comes to in ring fighting ability, but you know a fight between the two would still mean another massive payday. However, the real fight everyone wants to see that may never happen is Mayweather versus his heir apparent, Adrien Broner. Will it happen? The real question should be is there enough money in the world to convince Broner to step in the ring with his mentor?
