It's been 20 years and a few days since Nirvana's final studio album "In Utero" was released. In a month being used to honor the legendary rock band and its finest album, two old music giants have come together to show fans new footage of a legendary Nirvana moment.
To help celebrate the 20th anniversary of "In Utero" and to coincide with the deluxe edition reissue, due out Sept. 24, MTV and VH1 will release rare and never-before-seen footage from one of Nirvana's most famous concerts. VH1 Classic will air "Live and Loud" along with new footage on Sept. 23, according to USA Today. This will happen just one day before the DVD will hit store shelves as a part of the "In Utero" box set.
Hard-to-find footage that will see the light of day once again includes performances of "Rape Me" and "Heart-Shaped Box." Most excitingly, the networks will air rehearsal footage of "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" and "Very Ape," which feature frontman Kurt Cobain getting testy with producers and playing the drums in lieu of Dave Grohl.
In addition to the bonus footage on VH1 Classic, MTV News has put together a documentary about the concert special. The oral history will feature interviews with staff members and MTV executives who were at the concert. There will also be interviews with band members.
To help tease the viewing of "Live and Loud," MTV has given a preview of the Nirvana performance of "Heart-Shaped Box." The on-point performance shows Cobain, Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear rocking out in front of angel-winged mannequins, proving that Nirvana are considered one of the greatest rock acts of all time for a reason.
