2013 may well go down in history as the year of unexpected returns. David Bowie and My Bloody Valentine both reappeared to release new albums in the first quarter of this year and lauded high-concept backpackers Deltron 3030 are about to drop their first album in over a decade called Deltron 3030: Event II.
The new album will pick up with Deltron 3030's hero Deltron Zero returning to a futuristic landscape that has been overrun by technology in his absence.
Del The Funky Homosapien explained the album in a press release earlier this year.
"This time, the album has a specific story. The Deltron world has gone too far with technology. Everything's destroyed, and you just see the remnants of our technology. The streets are run by criminals, the police are outnumbered and outgunned, and we're like pirates, running rogue, doing what we do to survive. That's the scene of it. We're trying to be as literary as possible while dealing with a musical format. I don't know if you could even categorize this as a hip hop album - it's more like a rock opera, but using rap."
The album features a massive amount of guest stars from actors (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Cross, The Lonely Island) to rockers (Damon Albarn, Zack De La Rocha) and even chefs (David Chang). The whole afro-futurist rap-opera is streaming right now via Pitchfork Advance. Check it out.
Deltron drops on October 1.
