Of Montreal's new album lousy with sylvianbriar drops on October 8, but is currently streaming over at Pitchfork Advance. I've only made it through one go-round and I can say this: It's not f**king Skeletal Lamping (or anything after it, really). The album harkens back to early albums like Cherry Peel with a straightforward Summer Of Love sound.
While the singles we've previously debuted are fantastic as ever, some of the non-radio songs can be a bit of a slog. I'm looking you right in your optic stems, "Colossus."
That being said, there are tracks that may remind fans why we loved Kevin Barnes' thesauraus-implementing freakouts in the first place. "Triumph Of Disintegration," "Hegira Émigré" and "Imbecile Rages" do just enough to wash the bad taste of post-Georgie Fruit albums from our mouths.
