Ylvis' song "The Fox" quickly became a viral video hit on YouTube this summer; so of course Jimmy Fallon invited the Norwegian music sensation on to perform for the first time on late night television. Just as the Late Night crew does with many guests, the Roots joined Ylvis for this live version of the song. They basically just recreated the music video in a live setting, but it was still great to see Fallon and the Roots getting involved!
Also, "live" might not be the right word for this special performance. The performance almost immediately allows viewers to see that this was taped in some way. Perhaps only the first verse, but once that fox outfits pops on the Ylvis member it was obvious.
Moving past that fact, it was really fun to just watch the music video being recreated on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The dance numbers were there, as well as the costumes. Plus the old man reading a storybook to a small child was included!
Each ridiculous fox sound interpretation was pulled off well live and having the Roots participate was a great addition. Questlove's vocal part at the end of the song matched up perfectly with the scatting animated fox from the original viral music video. Jimmy Fallon dancing and singing in a fox costume was utterly amazing as well.
Also, Ylvis looked pretty excited to be on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, so that was really nice to witness.
