Alicia Keys has dropped a new track, "Better Me, Better You" to coincide with the release of the film she executive produced, "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete."
The track begins with a strong snare drum presence over Keys' soft vocals. "I have been that girl, I didn't know which way to turn / Then one day I turned to me / I told myself to wake up, it's going to be a better day / I just had to believe that my dreams don't have to wait," Keys sings in the pre-chorus, building slowly with a crescendo.
The inspirational, slow tempo song tells of picking yourself up off your feet and coming through a struggle as a stronger person, eventually "finding a better me."
The song's lyrics importantly tie into the theme of "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete." "You gotta stay focused and find a better you for me," she sings, encouraging the film's protagonists in the main theme.

"The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete" hits theatres today (Oct. 11). The film, which co-stars Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks, is a "coming-of-age story about two inner city youths, who are left to fend for themselves over the summer after their mothers are taken away by authorities," according to iMDB. Keys worked as a producer on the movie, in addition to providing a song for the soundtrack.
"Better Me, Better You" is the latest track from Keys. It is the follow up to her latest single, "Tears Always Win" from her album "Girl On Fire."
