According to recently filed court documents, Deadmau5 was stiffed out of $200K all the way back in 2011 after fulfilling a Vegas highroller's song request. The Canadian DJ fit Bon Jovi's "Living On A Prayer" into his set on the condition that the high-stakes gambler would pay him $200,000. The Bon Jovi fan welched and now Deadmau5's agency is seeking restitution.
A couple of years ago, WME agent Joel Zimmerman traveled to Las Vegas to book a gig for his client -- not named in court papers, but no doubt Deadmau5 as a video below will attest. (In an odd coincidence,Deadmau5's real name is also Joel Zimmerman. They aren't the same guy.)
There, Zimmerman met with Jesse Waits, a big-time Vegas local who is co-owner and managing partner of XS, one of the most esteemed nightclubs in the world
Waits apparently introduced Zimmerman (the agent) to Don Johnson, who agreed to pay $200K for Deadmau5 to press play on some Jersey arena rock. Deadmau5 complied as can be seen in the video below:
Johnson refused to pay when Zimmerman came calling and, to preserve their relationship with Deadmau5, WME came out of their own pockets to pay the fee. Now, they are seeking repayment.
