LL Cool J and N.W.A. are up for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame yet again this year. But what are their odds of getting in?
Let's take a look at their competition:
Peter Gabriel
Nirvana
Cat Stevens
Yes
The Replacements
Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Chic
Deep Purple
Hall and Oates
KISS
The Meters
Link Wray
Zombies
Linda Ronstadt
The Hall typically inducts 5 to 7 acts per year and several acts on this list are guaranteed entry. Nirvana (especially given the timeliness of the nomination, 20 years after Kurt Cobain's death), The Replacements and KISS, Linda Ronstadt and Cat Stevens are the most likely acts to walk into the HOF this year. That leaves two spots.
Peter Gabriel, Paul Butterfield, Link Wray, The Meters and The Zombies are all outside picks for entry with Deep Purple and Yes straddling the line between sure thing and gonzo pick. Hall and Oates are a bit poppy when compared to the rest of the nominees, but given their influence on modern indie and pop, the could waltz in. Chic keep getting nominated as some sort of cruel joke. They've been on the ballot eight times already. Still, most of these acts seem to have a better opportunity than any rap on the ballot.
That being said, I think N.W.A. have the best chance out of this year's rap picks to make the Hall. There seen as more infuential than LL (widely credited with bringing gangsta rap to the forefront) and their albums have aged better than James' early output.
Who do you think will make the Hall? Sound off in the comments.
