As I mentioned yesterday, the YouTube Music Awards had a chance to be something truly unique, nominating viral/innovative artists that wouldn't see recognition from stody institutions like the Grammys. They could've carved out their own niche by giving awards to artists who have truly made use of the video-hosting site's potential and being the first true Internet awards show. Instead, they gave noms to pop megastars and industry titans. This has YMA performer Tyler, the Creator rather riled up.
YOUTUBE AWARDS COULDVE FUCKING HAD NOMINATIONS ON COOL CREATIVE VIDEOS SHIT BUT NOOOO AGAIN ITS THE MOST TEENY BOPPER POP SHIT. YOU ARE BUTT

The rant, in full:

Flying Lotus was equally peeved:
If it's all about hits sure I get it but let's be fair. YouTube award nominations clearly don't care about cutting edge/innovation.

What do you think? Should YouTube have tried harder to do something different with their show?
