The ubiquitous pop jam "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen will finally hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart next week, shocking many who have assumed that the song has been the top of the pops for weeks.
It's difficult for many of us to remember the quieter days before we heard Jepsen belt out the catchiest chorus since M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes," but oddly enough the ubiquitous instant classic has been languishing in second place on Billboard.
"Call Me Maybe" has already sold 3 million copies in just four months, but it's been sitting behind the Gotye hit "Somebody That I Used To Know" on Billboard for the past eight weeks.
The song officially hits No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart next week on the June 23 edition of the rankings, meaning it is timed perfectly for the start of summer, which, as Gawker noted, means "everything is going according to the universe's plan."
Jepsen is likely to stay atop the chart for an extended run as the song, which has turned into a ubiquitous meme of a smash sensation, has already garnered more than 108 million hits on YouTube.
And the momentum is likely to continue to build, as you just CAN'T seem to get "Call Me Maybe" out of your head.
