Good news Foo Fighters fans, Dave Grohl and the band are back! The Foo Fighters announced on their website that in December they will be playing their first live show together since Grohl announced their hiatus back in 2012. The Foo Fighters will be playing a show in Mexico City's Foro Sol stadium on December 11 and then again on December 13. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster. General sale tickets opened up on November 1.
The band made the announcement on their website; they also revealed that The National will be opening for them. This is great news for Foo Fighters fans, especially after Grohl didn't make it sound particularly positive about the band playing together any time soon in a statement released last year. "I'm not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again," Grohl said last October (via Rolling Stone). "It feels strange to say that, but it's a good thing for all of us to go away for a while."
This is not to say there weren't hints that the band would be coming together soon. Grohl said over the summer that the band had already finished writing music for a new album. However, a new album isn't expected until 2014.
Grohl has been keeping himself very busy with side projects during the band's hiatus. Among the projects Grohl participated in was directing the "Sound City" documentary, playing drums for Queens of the Stone Age on their new album, and delivering the keynote address at South by Southwest.
For fans that haven't seen Dave Grohl's "Sound City" documentary, it is a great film. The documentary looks back at the now-defunct California studios where some of music's greatest albums were recorded from Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, and others.
While on hiatus, Grohl also performed "Bitch" with the Rolling Stones on stage in Anaheim during the Stones' "50 and Counting" tour. Check out the performance below.
