Given the decidedly weird acts that make their way onto late night television these days, it might be hard to wrap your head around the fact that Trent Reznor's largely accepted industrial act Nine Inch Nails has never appeared on a network television's witching hour offerings despite making music for two-plus decades.

Reznor finally broke that streak by appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to hype his latest album Hesitation Marks. With help from a remarkably tight backup band that speaks wonders for anyone hoping to see the reformed Nails on the road. Reznor performed a 6-minute take on album cut "All Time Low."

Hesitation Marks largely shows Reznor casting aside his all-industrial schtick with nods to blues, funk and R&B. The youthful angst is still there, but an older Reznor has a more nuanced response than a teenage "F--- you!" keeping the album from sounding like a '90s revival-riding cash grab.

All of that is on display in a Kimmel performance where Reznor bops and air-humps his way through a track that '97 NIN wouldn't of dreamed of putting out -- that includes a synth-riff that is light enough to soundtrack a Zelda game about five minutes in.

What do you think of Reznor's first late night appearance? Did he nail it (sweet Jesus, no pun intended)?

Sound off in the comments.
