Filmmaker Joe Wright (Pride and Prejudice, Atonement, Hanna) is set to direct the upcoming origin story film adaptation of Peter Pan. According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline, this new take on the classic children's tale will be an origin story in the vein of Batman Begins (but most likely less violent).
This is not the only Peter Pan movie project in the works, in fact Channing Tatum is attached to produce another entitled Pan. Plus, the Young Adult novel Peter and the Starcatchers is another adaptation getting a movie treatment.
But Wright's origin movie is the first time we'll see this popular character explained. Coined as a "reimagined fairy tale," this will most likely turn into an interesting addition to Wright's filmography. Reports are also claiming that this project is a high priority for Warner Bros., so we could be seeing it within a few years time.
"Fairy tales to me are never happy, sweet stories; they're moral stories about overcoming the dark side, the bad," the director has said in the past. Some would say that his modern day action film Hanna even had some fairy tale aspects to it. Perhaps he will approach this new project as he did Hanna?
For now, Wright is the frontrunner for this project but has yet to sign a deal. It looks like many movie news websites are hoping for this to happen, but what do you think of this director? Let us know your opinion on this project in the comments section below!
