The Glamour Women of the Year Awards were filled with stunning words of respect and admiration exchanged between stars and activists from all walks of life. Here we share the highlights of the beautiful event as reported on by the Associated Press.

In a long speech, Lady Gaga presented 16 year-old education activist Malala Yousafzai with an award. Gaga said, "If I could forfeit my Glamour cover I would give it to Malala."

Iman also later sung Malala's praise. "She is a game-changer for girls," Iman said. "I wish young girls here knew more about Malala, and less about the Kardashians."

Malala is from Pakistan and supports education for girls through The Malala Fund she started. She also released her memoir, "I Am Malala."

Girls' Lena Dunham honored Melinda Gates for her work Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She described Gates as "the most stunning example of putting your money where your mouth is that the world has ever seen."

Barbara Streisand received the Lifetime Achievement Award. She expressed her gratitude for having her opinions be heard because of her singing profession. She went on to express her many thoughts, including, "There's never been a woman president, but I hope that will change very soon - hint, hint!" Streisand said. "And we really need her now."

Very fittingly, Hillary Rodham Clinton herself made a surprise appearance to present the Couple of the Year award. It went to former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly. Giffords was shot meeting constituents back in 2011.

Emotional words continued to be shared that night, when a teacher at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. was honored. Kaitlin Roig-DeBellis helped save the lives of the children at school on the tragic day of the shooting.

All of these dark moments lead us back to words of light and hope that Malala said at the Award show that evening:

"I believe the gun has no power because a gun can only kill," Malala said. "But a pen can give life."
