Rupert Sanders used to work mainly as a commercial director before making his major motion picture debut with Snow White and the Huntsman starring Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, and Kristen Stewart. After the success of that film, his next project will be a film adaptation of the life of Napolean Bonaparte. Going by the title Napolean, Sanders' film will tackle one of the most notorious military leaders in the history of the world.
The Hollywood Reporter broke this news, describing the Jeremy Doner (AMC's The Killing) script as "taking a Scarface-like look at its subject."
Here is an excerpt from the report:
Bonaparte is one of history's most outsized personalities, a genius who believed in himself almost too much, as he could inspire hundreds of thousands to do his military and political bidding. Bonaparte rose to power through a series of revolutions at the turn of the 19th century, riding the liberty wave of the French Revolution and becoming Emperor of France. Using brilliant strategy, he made France into a major world power, but his fortune turned after he invaded Russia. His defeat at the Battle of Waterloo is one of history's most famous battles.
Do you think Sanders is the right director to make a movie of such an important historical figure? Who do you want to see in the role of Bonaparte?
Sanders was recently in headlines for allegedly having an affair with Kirsten Stewart. Do you think something like this will happen again on the set of Napolean? Only time will answer all of these questions, but for now share your opinion in the comments section below!
