Earlier this month, we reported on how Night of the Living Dead director and the creator of the zombie genre pretty much hates AMC's hit zombie drama The Walking Dead. So a few weeks have passed and he has not changed his mind! This time, he goes into some detail as to why he'll never write for the hit series and why he feels such disdain towards the television show.

"It feels like I don't have a horse in the race," he explained. "They asked me to do a couple of episodes of The Walking Dead but I didn't want to be a part of it. Basically it's just a soap opera with a zombie occasionally. I always used the zombie as a character for satire or a political criticism and I find that missing in what's happening now."

Romero added: "Once they bleed out of pop culture I'll be able to go back and do them again. I don't want to touch them now. Gosh, they are all over the place. The Walking Dead is the number one television series in the States, World War Z, games, commercials ... Ugh! It's too much!"

Clearly the zombie genre creator does not like that films and television shows about zombies and the undead are so mainstream now. This sounds like he's being kind of elitist, right? To be fair, the originator of the craft is pretty much allowed to be elitist ... that's what makes him elite. But honestly, shouldn't he be somewhat proud of having something he helped create become so worldwide?
