The pot is officially calling the kettle terrible. Kings Of Leon, days after laying out some unsolicited advice for One Direction, are calling pop music "f*cking awful."
It's not even music any more," Matthew Followill said in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald. "You would never want your children to watch [shows like that] and I can't believe that younger kids, even teenagers are watching that stuff. It almost seems to be making the world a bad place."
Of course, this interview was probably held over the phone as the men behind Aha Shake Heartbreak counted their stacks of pop radio money that they made off "Sex On Fire" style shlock, but I digress.
Jared Followill added that "they [pop stars] make me cringe."
"I can't watch that stuff. Not even just because they're taking their clothes off it's the whole thing, the dance moves, it's not good," he added.
The band continued to show an unhealthy lack of self-awareness with the following statement.
"There are alot of people who buy into their own hype and they become dicks," Jared said. "I have always cringed at the term 'rock star' and now it's been taken over by hip hop. We are the most boring band. We are polite and always show up on time and if we ever cancel it's for a good reason."
Oh, Jeebus. The band that is practically synonymous with in-fighting and meltdowns wants to claim that they are above the rock lifestyle. I just can't.
