Right after the cable company Comcast was reportedly claimed to be opening a digital storefront, they have already moved forward and begun selling movies and TV shows online.
According to its exfinitypurchases.com, the largest pay TV provider is allowing viewers to see films "weeks before they are available on DVD or for rental." When it seems many people are waiting for the films and shows they wanted to watch to show up on Netflix, this could be a good alternative.
The Hollywood Reporter shared what is already on the docket of for films. "Among the new titles being offered are Red 2 (available before its Tuesday DVD release), 2 Guns and Fast & Furious 6. Recent hits like Despicable Me, The Hunger Games, Bridesmaids, Ted, The Expendables and the Twilight series are also available as are older titles like the Back to the Future trilogy, Dirty Dancing, E.T., Apocalypse Now and Jaws. Films cost $10.99-12.99 for standard definition and $14.99-16.99 for HD."
In addition to movies, shows like Mad Men, Bates Motel, Suits, Covert Affairs, Chicago Fire, Grimm and Hannibal are now available for purchase. They cost $1.99 for the standard definition episodes and $2.99 for HD versions.
The way viewers can access these shows and movies is either through on-demand, if they have Comcast, and online at xfinity.com/store. The Xfinity On Demand purchases can be watched online or they have an app for iOS and Android. One benefit of this service is having downloaded versions so customers can watch on their computer or mobile device even when they are offline.
