Writer and director George Miller has been working on Mad Max: Fury Road for quite some time now. The project started filming in 2012 with The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy taking over the iconic role that Mel Gibson championed in the 1980s. We haven't heard much about the film, but now Warner Brothers has given it a release date. The movie also stars Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Jones, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa.

Miller previously described the plot: "Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived."

This new take on the Mad Max franchise will hit theaters on May 15, 2015, which is just two weeks after the release of another big movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron. Clearly there might be some concern for the film going up against the sequel to the highest grossing film ever, but this release coincides with the 30-year-anniversary of the release of Mad Mad Beyond Thunderdome.

Though we now have a release date, not much is known about Fury Road besides the cast. One interesting casting note is that Hugh Keays-Byrne, who played the Toecutter in the first film, returns in a brand new role this time around.
