It's time to seek out the number of that shady co-worker who always had strong, because Mastodon are getting ready to drop a new album. According to an interview with Rolling Stone, the band have put together close to 20 tracks and are preparing to enter the studio for an as-yet-untitled sixth album.
"It's gonna be massive and insane, lots of epic greatness," drummer Brann Dailor said. "There will be lots of huge riffs and new directions. It's real weird, real math-y, real straightforward. It's up, down and all around." He laughs. "It's a culmination of everything for the band. The snowball keeps rolling and collecting snow."
The album will be produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who has helmed albums by the Foo Fighters, Rush and the Deftones. Most notably (for metalheads, anyway) Raskulinecz worked the boards for Queens Of The Stone Age's Songs For The Deaf.
Now, that the album cycle has begun, Dailor says there is very little that will stand in the way of a new album being released soon.
"There's very few things that anybody can do to stop a Mastodon record from being born," he said. "And this thing's gonna get born, OK? And there's nothing anybody can do about it. We're ready to lay them sh**s down. We're ready to rock."
For eager fans who need more Mastodon in the here and now, the band is releasing an online-only video and audio live album titled Mastodon Live at Brixton.
The 23-song set was played at London's 02 Academy while the band was on tour supporting The Hunter.
