It looks like Katie Couric will be leaving ABC News to start a talk show with Yahoo, Deadline reports. She also has a daytime talkshow with ABC, but the continuation of the show is up in the air. Katie is in its second season and has a two-year commitment with the ABC stations to end in May. It did however, have five weeks of high ratings recently. The history of the show has been full of changes in concept and executive producers. November ratings have to come to completion before more definitive decisions are made on the future of the show.

An ABC News executive spoke exclusively to Deadline, saying "Katie is an incredible journalist and this was an opportunity that she couldn't pass up. Thanks to the powerful association between ABC News and Yahoo we know that Katie will continue to work closely with us and welcome her on our air anytime." (Yahoo has a partnership with ABC.)

MailOnline received some positive words from a different angle, "Right now, there are money issues - the show is too expensive and there are structural issues in the deal...But ABC looked at Katie and thought 'why are we getting rid of it when there's no good replacement and if other shows aren't doing so well?" an insider said. "Even in good times, it takes shows several years to develop and it even took Ellen four or five years to gain traction...Clearly there were some internal challenges on Katie, but they are producing a better show and this leaves open the possibility of it coming back. It's not guaranteed - but it's possible," the source finished.

Katie Couric got engaged on Labor Day to John Molner.
