The ninth and final season of How I Met Your Mother has taken place largely at the Farhampton Inn for Barney and Robin's wedding weekend. But the show has flashed back and flashed forward quite often in Season 9, just as it has for much of its run. And according to series co-creator Craig Thomas, more episodes in the final season will continue to jump through time, including a flashback episode...to China?!
Thomas told the "Matt's Inside Line" column at TVLine that an upcoming episode in Season 9 will jump across time AND across the planet:
"Do you have any spoilers for How I Met Your Mother? -Shari
Did somebody order Chinese? Because one of the final season's episodes will travel abroad as well as through time. 'There's an episode coming up that's ... mostly in flashback and mostly set in China,' EP Craig Thomas shares. And if you're all 'Huh?' - and I reckon you are - he adds, 'It will make sense once you see it.' And there'll be other episodes like it, including the 'rhyming' half-hour airing Monday. 'There's a lot of crazy time machine, structural jumpiness coming up that I think people will enjoy,' Thomas says."
The episode that airs Monday is entitled "Bedtime Stories" and will be unique in that the entire episode will be told with a rhyming structure. The episode will feature three stories: Marshall and Marvin on the train out to Farhampton for the wedding, Barney becoming "Player King of New York City" and Robin doing something wedding cake-related.
