Fans of HBO's hits series Game of Thrones are quite familiar with the current reigning king on the show, Joffrey Baratheon. He is a terrible, evil ruler who always gets his way and has plunged the realm into a despairing time of need. Fans may also know how things work out for him in the Song of Ice and Fire book series that the show is based on, too. That said, the young actor that plays Joffrey, Jack Gleeson, has recently announced that he will quit his career in acting when the series ends or when his character is no longer involved in the show. (SPOILERS to follow)
Without spoiling too much of the upcoming fourth season, here is what Gleeson recently revealed.
"[Acting] was always a recreation beforehand, but when I started doing Game of Thrones perhaps the reality was made too real for me," Gleeson said. "The lifestyle that comes with being an actor in a successful TV show isn't something I gravitate towards."
The young star was recently spending time in Haiti, looking at projects for impoverished people.
"I'd been looking to use the celebrity I've got from the show to bring awareness for causes [aid agency] Goal supports," he said, according to The Independent.
Gleeson has rarely attended Game of Thrones events or premieres in the past, so this might not come as a surprise to some, but this is a talent lost. We all hate Joffrey and that is because Gleeson is just so good at his job.
Again, not to spoil too much, but this upcoming season could be the last time we see Gleeson as an actor.
