It's the holidays and there is something everyone can be thankful for. MStarsNews reporter, Star Connor joined in the celebration Monday night, Nov. 25, along with Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton.
Located in Charlotte, N.C., Cam Newton, along with members of his family and volunteers from Second Harvest Food Bank and The Fillmore, hosted Monday night's event, "Cam's Thanksgiving Jam." Over 700 underprivileged kids (and some family members) were served a traditional Thanksgiving meal. In addition to the meal, all guests received a ham, bag full of canned goods and a pie.
The event featured entertainment for the kids -- a DJ, face painters, balloon artists, and local radio personalities. Newton along with other volunteers served up a treat for the families, and interacted with the guests.
During a quick chat with the star quarterback, Newton explained why he isn't having turkey this year for Thanksgiving. Newton says, "He is most thankful for family, and the experiences that he has been through." When asked what his favorite meal was, Newton explained that he was on a diet, "I'm on a diet, I have gone 8 months strong only eating fish, so it's gonna be kind of weird not eating the ham, turkey, and chicken. He goes on to say he is officially a "pescatarian."
When asked did he get some good seafood down in Miami, Newton jokingly replied, "yeah I had some great dolphin, " in making reference todefeating the Miami Dolphins, 20-16 this past Sunday.
The star quarterback explained the reason behind his diet was, "I try to challenge myself off the field to test my discipline."
Going back to the reason of Monday's event, Newton said, "it's disheartening to know kids are going to bed hungry," he hopes that this year's event will bring on more in the future years to come.
