Eminem has released the music video for his controversial Marshall Mathers LP 2 track "Rap God", and the nostalgia-soaked video is at least twice as interesting as the song it contains.
The video jumps all over the place (though the Max Headroom scenes do fit the jittery, stuttering flow of the track rather well) but seems to focus on Eminem becoming the titular "Rap God" by way of a Matrix-like connector that pumps his brain full of rap history and other knowledge.
The bank of television screens helpfully underline all of Em's lines with appropriate video clips until Eminem eventually breaks free of the machine and begins to show off his newfound powers. Along the way, we see Eminem in 8 Mile garb throwing "trap elbows", watch as Shady thinks with portals (though, I'm gonna be that guy and say that two of those should be blue) and focus on Em as he takes the god motif to Yeezian levels.
MMLP2 is currently back on the top of the Billboard charts and has been certified platinum.
