The most recent episode of Homeland revealed that Saul, who had traveled to Venezuela, needs Brody's help to carry out the next phase of his season-long mission. Of course, Brody's reliability on this show has always been tenuous at best, so one has to wonder if the former Marine can really be trusted.
In the "Mega Buzz" column at TV Guide, executive producer Alex Gansa reveals that the director of the CIA (for now) has no choice but to trust Brody:
"Can Saul really trust Brody to carry out this new secret mission on Homeland? - Jason
For better or for worse, it seems like all of Saul's eggs are in Brody's basket. After Saul figured out that Carrie helped Brody flee the country, he doesn't exactly trust her. 'Secrets are being kept from each other and plans and agendas and motivations are being withheld,' executive producer Alex Gansa teases. So, can the duo keep it together for the good of the mission? 'Even though they were in cahoots at the beginning of the season, their relationship has frayed somewhat,' Gansa says. 'This a bit of a rocky patch for both of them.'"
Much of this third season of Homeland has been about mistrust, and it seems like the show will continue to play that out in the final few episodes. It took a long time (as in, almost the entire season) for the show to bring Brody back into the main plot in a significant way. Hopefully, the lackluster third season will go out with a bang.
