Sony Crackle has launched an original concert series, "Playing It Forward," with street performance-style documentary episodes. The series is produced by Team Downey (founded by Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey) and will have surprise street shows from huge artists in random environments across the U.S., all to benefit music education and artist-chosen charities.

When we say benefit, we mean $100,000 in donations per episode kind of benefit. The first episode will support John Legend's the Show Me Campaign, which grants children access to solid education with proven, scalable programs. The goal is to break the cycle of poverty via this quality learning.

John Legend was the first performance and you can watch his episode here. Clues to future episodes will be shared with fans, on the off chance that you can attend the street performance live.

The Executive Vice President of Digital Networks at Sony Pictures Television and GM of Crackle (how's that for a title), Eric Berger, talks about this unique series:

"Music is a shared passion among our viewers and we're excited to open a door to some of the industry's biggest artists, making them accessible to our audience-all while raising money and awareness for charity and music education," he said.

Everyone can agree it's a worthy cause and we're personally looking forward to which artists will be popping up on street corners performing next. Though we'd love to catch one in person, the great part is you can always come back to watch the performance in the comforts of your own home.

Who would you like to see do a show right in the midst of a busy street?
