A little over three months since Kendrick Lamar's verse on "Control" went viral and the rapper is still ruffling feathers. Justin Timberlake decided to feature J. Cole, Pusha T and A$AP Rocky on his "TKO" remix and Cole took this as an opportune time to fire back at K Dot.
Kendrick shook up the rap game with his name dropping verse on Big Sean's "Control." He called out hip-hop's top dogs, one of which was Cole, to step up to the plate. Kendrick also called out Drake.
K Dot's verse went something like this:
"I'm usually homeboys with the same n****s i'm rhymin wit / But this is hip hop and them n****s should know what time it is / And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller / I got love for you all but I'm tryna murder you n****s / Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you n****s."
Hip-hop heavy weights saw Kendrick's verse as a challenge to other rappers to step their game up.
Rap veteran Joe Budden said Kendrick's verse was "good for hip-hop."
Initially, Drake was the only rapper mentioned who responded and of course a rap beef ensued. Obviously Drizzy took it the wrong way. But Cole has finally broken his silence.
On his "TKO" verse, the rapper talks about "Control" and how everyone, including his mama, questioned his reaction. Cole decided to take a different route. Aside from mentioning the track, Cole never really take shots at Kendrick. Interesting.
