One Direction's new album 'Midnight Memories' overtakes 'Random Access Memories' as fastest-selling album of 2013

Here's further proof that they UK never really left the boy band era: One Direction's new album Midnight Memories just surpassed Daft Punk's monster Random Access Memories  to become the fastest-selling album of 2013 in the United Kingdom.

Midnight Memories' sold more than 237,000 copies in its first week of release, overtaking Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories', which sold 165,000 copies during its first week sale in the UK back in May.

While many will be quick to scoff, this is by no means a mark on the taste of the UK's album-buying public. Contrary to the popular opinion, 1D put out genuinely well-crafted songs. Hell, no less than respected AV Club/Pitchfork/Grantland music critic Steven Hyden called the album's "Little Black Dress" "one of the year's best rock songs." 

The fact of the matter is, 1D are a likeable bunch of dudes who put out great pop music, and they probably deserve the crown over Daft Punk's undercooked, overly theatrical (and oftentimes laighable) Random Access Memories.
