How I Met Your Mother will air its milestone 200th episode on Jan. 27 and Cristin Milioti, who plays The Mother herself, will be the star of the show. Executive producers and series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have revealed that the episode, entitled "How Your Mother Met Me," will be a much different episode than what HIMYM fans have seen in the past.
The main five cast members will be used sparingly in the 200th episode, but The Mother will be front and center. One of the biggest complaints about this final season thus far has been the lack of appearances by The Mother, but that will change drastically in the landmark episode.
"You're going to be so sick of her by the end [of the series]," Thomas joked to TVLine.
Much of the episode will be told from The Mother's perspective, which will make for a stark contrast from the previous 199 episodes.
"Our 100th episode was very much a celebration of the cast - not the cast doesn't deserve celebrating even more after 200 episodes - but this is a different kind of story," Bays told TVLine. "It's about the tale. It felt like a different kind of 200th episode, but it felt like the right one to do in terms of the greater story of the show."
Thomas also gushed about Milioti's performance in the episode and put at ease the minds of fans who want more of her. "If she doesn't get nominated for a guest Emmy for this episode, I don't know what one has to do to get that," he said. "She's fantastic in it. Anyone who wants more of her will love this episode."
Despite the episode's title, it's unclear if The Mother and Ted Mosby will actually meet in the 200th installment. In the flashforward to the Farhampton train station (where the two meet), Ted has a bandaged hand after the weeding and seems to not be in the best of moods, likely because of his lingering feelings for Robin. But the two series creators assured fans that all will end well for Teddy Westside.
"It's a bruising weekend for everybody," Bays said of the wedding weekend. "A lot goes down. But he's going to meet [The Mother] at exactly the right time in his life."
Thomas added that "Ted will be very happy at the end of the series."
