Usually it's Morgan Freeman's voice that stands out. This time, it's his face. An iPad art illustration of Morgan Freeman by Kyle Lambert has gone viral. With 285,000 brush strokes and 200+ hours, the U.K.-based artist was able to capture a "hyperrealistic image" of the famous actor. People are going crazy over just how flawless it looks. The video has drawn over one-million-and-a-half views in less than a day.
How does he do it? Lambert spoke with a Computer Graphics publication, CG Arena. What's the secret? Well, there is none, according to Lambert. But he does divulge some big tips:
"There is no real 'secret' to painting realistic images. It is all about going that extra mile and spending time on each and every area of your image," Lambert says. When painting realistically, the basics become very important. Getting the lighting right is essential because this determines how 3 dimensional the subject matter looks," he adds.
There is more than that, obviously. The hardest component of working with your finger on an iPad Air (and any painting, really). "Another vital part, and probably the most difficult part of painting is to get the coloring accurate. Very often colors appear lighter to the eye than they really are and people will paint more cartoony images because of this," Lambert says. "The most important thing is to spend more time looking at what you are painting and less time presuming."
Lambert has done pictures of Will Smith, Jennifer Aniston, Rihanna, and more.
